Central’s Walton on NFCA all-tourney team
TUCSON, ARIZ.—Central College catcher Emily Walton (senior, Cedar Rapids, Jefferson HS) was selected for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Leadoff Classic all-tournament team.
The three-day tourney was staged over the weekend and featured 32 of the nation’s top NCAA Division III squads. No. 21-ranked Central posted a 3-3 mark.
Walton, who missed the 2017 season due to injury, made a noteworthy return to the lineup, hitting .400 for the six games. She hit two doubles and a home run, and knocked in a team-high seven runs. She also drew a walk and had a .429 on-base percentage.
The Dutch remain in Tucson and, after a day off, return to action at the same site for 10 games in the Tucson Invitational Games. Tuesday they’ll take on Rockford College (Ill.) at 2:30 p.m. (Central Time) and the College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) at 4:30 p.m.
