Central’s Strasko, Vander Molen receive women’s basketball honorable mention

PELLA— Central College forward Nicole Strasko (senior, Roland, Roland-Story HS) and guard Kenzie Vander Molen (Pella) have received honorable mention on the women’s basketball all-Iowa Conference team.

A two-time team captain, Strasko was the team’s leading rebounder averaging 7.4, ranking sixth in the league, and the squad’s second-leading scorer averaging 9.6, 16th in the league. Strasko collected a school-record 22 rebounds against North Central (Ill.) Nov. 27 while also posting a career-high 27 points. She notched seven career double-doubles, including five this season.

After missing the first half of the season, Vander Molen averaged 7.1 points per game while shooting 45.6 percent from the field. She registered 44 assists and 20 steals. Vander Molen poured in a career-best 17 points at Luther Feb. 6.

The Dutch posted a 10-15 record, the most wins since 2003-04, and a 3-11 league mark, the best conference record since 2008-09.
