PELLA — Central College kicker Kevin Sheldon (senior, West Des Moines, Valley HS) is one of 29 kickers in all of college football to be recognized by The Fred Mitchell Award for his work on the football field and in the community in October.

The three-time all-Iowa Conference first-team selection has made four of eight field goals this season for the Dutch, including three of his last four, and two from beyond 40 yards. Sheldon has made 33 of 51 field goals and 131 of 134 extra points in his career. He was also named to the D3football.com team of the week and received conference special teams player of the week honors for his performance against Loras College Oct. 18 that included two made field goals and five made extra points.

Off the field, the Central kicker has helped raise money for people in need in Haiti by volunteering with a color run fundraiser and has helped troubled teens through The Landing organization. Sheldon also volunteered coaching high school kickers at the Midwest Kicking Camp.

The Central College senior is one of five Division III kickers on the list and the only one from the Iowa Conference. Finalists for the Fred Mitchell Award will be announced in November and the winner will be announced in December. Sheldon was one of 36 kickers on the preseason watch list.
