DUBUQUE — Senior outside hitter Mollie Mason’s (Iowa City, West HS) statistical double-double effort wasn’t enough for the Central College volleyball team, falling to Loras College 25-16, 25-17, 28-26 Friday night.

Central dropped to 8-10 on the season and 1-2 in the Iowa Conference, while Loras improved its record to 8-9 overall and 2-1 in conference.

“We have a lot more to give than we played with tonight and that was disappointing,” said coach Jeanne Czipri.

Mason finished the match with a career-high 20 digs and 10 kills. She also had an attack percentage of .350.

Junior setter Chapel Carter (Colorado Springs, Colo., Coronado HS) had 18 assists and six digs.

“Our conference is too talented to come out flat and expect good things to happen,” said Czipri.

Central looks to bounce back Saturday with a matchup against the University of Dubuque with first serve at 11:30 a.m. The Dutch won the battle with the Spartans last season 23-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-16.
