Central’s Bahtic named volleyball defensive player of the week

PELLA — Central College defensive specialist Dzenita Bahtic (senior, Urbandale) has been named Iowa Conference volleyball defensive player of the week for her role in leading the Dutch to a 4-1 record in their last five matches.

Bahtic recorded 22 digs in a four-set win for the Dutch against conference opponent Dubuque Sept. 23. She also recorded 28 digs in three sets during a Central loss to Concordia (Wis.) and 21 digs in three sets in a Central win over Wis. Lutheran. Bahtic finished with 89 digs in 14 sets on the week.

The defensive specialist leads the Dutch this season in both digs, with 308, and digs per set, with 6.55.

This is the second time in her career and first time this season Bahtic has been named conference volleyball defensive player of the week.

Central (13-6 overall, 1-1 Iowa Conference) will play host to Warburg College (16-2, 2-0) tonight at 7:30 p.m. at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium.
