Central’s Alberts named to preseason football honor squad

PELLA—Central College placekicker Jon Alberts (junior, Huntley, Ill.) was tabbed for the Street & Smith’s football preseason Division III All-America squad.

Alberts was the only Iowa Conference player selected.

Last fall, Alberts set a school record with 14 field goals in 16 attempts, including a record four field goals in a win over Augustana College (Ill.). He had a long of 40 yards and connected on 38 of 41 extra-point tries.

A first-team all-Iowa Conference honoree, Alberts was a three-time league special teams player of the week and was also chosen for the d3football.com team of the week. He received academic all-conference distinction as well and was chosen for the CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII first team.

Central opens the 2018 campaign Sept. 1 at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul (Minn.).
