Central women’s soccer team continues stellar defense

CHICAGO- Once again led by goalkeeper Zoey Sizemore (sophomore, Omaha, Neb., Mercy), grabbing four saves, the Dutch have started out the season without conceding a goal.

Despite Central (2-0-0) only having one shot on the goal, it was enough to get past North Park (1-1-0).

“It is always a tough match to play,” coach Mike Kobylinski said. “Driving five hours and playing in the city, but I want to credit to our team for their resilience and getting another shutout and win against a good squad.”

The lone shot on target came from Grace Coates (senior, Marion), who took advantage of a miscommunication between the Vikings goalie and center back, and Coates found herself all alone to score.

“”t was a battle tested match,” Kobylinski said. “We are happy with getting the win but we know there is room for improvement.”

After playing two games in three days the Dutch have time to rest with their next game coming on Tuesday when they return home and battle Northwestern-St. Paul (Minn.) at 4 p.m. on the A.N. Kuyper Athletic Complex soccer field.

“It will be nice to rest the team’s legs,” said Kobylinski. “It was a tough stretch but it was great to play 21 players rotating in both matches, it shows the fantastic depth of our squad.”
