Central women’s soccer team battles Loras in defeat

PELLA — Facing an unbeaten and nationally ranked Loras College side, the Central College women’s soccer team lost 1-0 Saturday afternoon.

The Dutch (7-4-1, 1-2-0 American Rivers Conference) played evenly with the No. 13 Duhawks (12-0-1, 4-0-0 conference) for most of the match. Central led in shots 10-3 in the second half and only trailed 15-12 over the full 90 minutes.

“We went toe-to-toe with the 13th ranked team in the nation,” “I couldn’t have asked for more from this team. I‘m very proud of them.”

Grace Coates (freshman, forward, Marion) and Elena Pinto (freshman, midfielder, Federal Way, Wash., Kent HS) both had three shots and one go on frame apiece.

Jasmyn Bush (sophomore, La Porte City, Union HS) made five saves for Centrals in goal.

“She made some saves that sometimes only she can make,” Kobylinsi said.

Beyond the 20 players Central used in the match, Kobylinski was happy with what the rest of the team did from the sideline.

“The beach energy was phenomenal,” he said. “I’m just as happy with how we cheered from the bench as I am with how we played.”

Central is at Nebraska Wesleyan University for a 6 p.m. match next Tuesday.

“It’s a really tough place to play,” Kobylinski said. “It’s a small field and a turf surface. They also lost to Loras 1-0 so it’s going to be a tough match.”
