Central volleyball team vanquishes Knox

GALESBURG, ILLINOIS—It was another sweep for the Central College volleyball team Wednesday night as it blanked Knox College (Ill.) 25-13, 25-20, 25-16.

Central (13-2) logged its eighth sweep of the season with its victory over the Prairie Fire (0-9).

“I was really glad we were able to come and take care of business,” coach Jeanne Czipri said. “We had some errors as we were trying a few different things but glad to execute some things as well.”

Libero Colleen Kenney (sophomore, Taylor Ridge, Ill., Rock Island Alleman HS) led the Dutch in service aces (3) and digs (27). Middle hitter Elyse Johnson (senior, Kirksville, Mo.) had four block assists.

Setter Avery Rexroat (sophomore, Macomb, Ill.) had 27 assists. Makayla Ribble (sophomore, Iowa City) added nine assists to go with five kills while playing setter and hitting. Johnson and Gracie Daniels (senior, Broken Arrow, Okla.) each had eight kills.

Central plays in Decorah Saturday in a triangular with Luther College and the University of Wisconsin – Stout. The match with the Norse will be the American Rivers Conference opener for the Dutch. Luther lost its conference opener at home against Coe College Wednesday night.

“We are excited to be going into conference knowing what we are capable of and where we can improve,” Czipri said.
