Central bags another conference volleyball victory

DECORAH — The Central College women’s volleyball team found a way to get a win at Luther College Friday night, battling for a 25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 25-21 victory.

The Dutch (12-8, 3-2 American Rivers Conference) outlasted the Norse (2-20, 0-7 conference) in the four-set match. In the decisive fourth set, the match was tied six times and the lead switched hands three times.

“Tonight was not our cleanest win,” coach Jeanne Czipri said. “But we are glad to have another conference win. I’m proud of the adjustments the players made throughout the match.”

Krissa Larson (senior, outside hitter, Waverly, Waverly-Shell Rock HS) paced the Dutch offense again, landing 13 kills. Taryn Hintz (sophomore, outside hitter, Primghar, South O’Brien HS) added 11 and Ruth Hruska (senior, outside hitter, Brookfield, Riverside-Brookfield HS) charted six in the last two sets.

“I’m really pleased with what Ruth did, coming off the bench and adding some great offense,” Czipri said. “I was excited to see Taryn get some great points as well.”

Hallie Uhlig (senior, middle hitter, Colorado Springs, Colo., Palmer Ridge HS) had four block assists and Larson had three. Adisyn Illg (junior, setter, Johnsburg, Ill.) has 21 assists and Amanda Smith (junior, Tipton) had 15. Smith also added three service aces. Libero Landry Luhring (senior, Grundy Center) had 20 digs.

Central travels to Galesburg, Illinois Saturday for a triangular against Grinnell College and Knox College (Ill.) at noon and 2 p.m., respectively. Central bested Grinnell in five sets in Pella on September 14.

“We need to be better these last few matches of the regular season to stretch our season into November,” Czipri said.
