Cecil Smith, 83, of Beacon died Sunday, August 28, 2022, at his home in Beacon. He was born December 11, 1938, in Allerton, Iowa, the son of Ora S. and Edna Hall Smith.

Cecil graduated from Allerton Schools with the class of 1957.

Following graduation, he moved to Oskaloosa and took a job at Iowa Power and Light.

On November 1, 1959, he was united in marriage to Shirley Richardson at Clio, Iowa. To this union two sons were born Christopher and Curtis.

Following their marriage, Cecil went to work putting his mechanical skills to good use. He owned and operated service stations in Oskaloosa and was a self-employed mechanic. He later took a job at the Bus Barn working on equipment for the Oskaloosa School System. He retired after many years of service.

Cecil was a charter member of the Rollin Oldies Car Club. He enjoyed working on, collecting, and showing old cars. He also enjoyed fishing and collecting “everything” but especially die cast cars.

Cecil’s family includes his two sons, Christopher (& Brenda) Smith of Rome, Georgia and Curtis Smith of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother, Arlie Smith of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley on January 5, 1987; his parents; two sisters, Doris VanToorn and Dora Jean Smith; and two brothers, (Ora) Don Smith and Oris Dean Smith.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 2, 2022, at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in the Clio Cemetery at Clio, Iowa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Thursday after 2p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Thursday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society.
