Carol Ann Wonderlich
March 3, 1939 – September 23, 2023
Oskaloosa, Iowa | Age 84

Carol Ann Wonderlich, age 84, of Oskaloosa, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Park Centre Senior Living Community in Newton, Iowa. She was born during a blizzard in Lovilia, Iowa, on March 3, 1939, the daughter of Gerald and Leah (Baker) Davis.

Carol attended school in one room schoolhouses as a child before moving to Newton and later to Oskaloosa, where she attended high school and graduated with the Class of 1957. After high school, Carol attended Weaver Airline School in Kansas City, Missouri.

On December 9, 1961, she was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Wonderlich at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. They shared over 50 years of marriage together until Bob passed away on June 6, 2012.

Following her education at the Weaver Airline School, Carol worked for North Central Airlines at the ticket counter and as a Flight Attendant for Ozark Airlines in St. Louis, Missouri. Subsequently, Carol worked at Yonkers in Oskaloosa before moving to the Ottumwa Courier as a part-time reporter. Years following, she managed Ashley’s Outlet Store in Oskaloosa and eventually ended her career at Mahaska State Bank, where she retired as a safe deposit teller in 1994. After her children were born, she was a homemaker, taking pride in caring for her family and their home.

Carol had many hobbies, including reading, going on excursions with her husband (soaking up the Texas sun in the winter and fishing the Canada waters in the summer) and going out to dinner with friends, classmates and her cousins. She was a long-time member of the Oskaloosa Womens Club. She also enjoyed spending Thursday nights in the summer at the bandstand listening to the Oskaloosa City Band. Most of all, she loved to spend as much time as possible with her family. Carol looked forward to playing board games with the group during their annual Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas celebration and spending one-on-one time with each of her grandkids.

Carol was an active member of the Disabled American Veteran’s (DAV) Auxiliary and a proud member of the First Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Oskaloosa.

Her family includes her children, Linda Dougan and Mike Wonderlich; her grandchildren: Lindsey Howe, Grant Howe, Liam Dougan, Griffin Wonderlich, Cannon Wonderlich and Asher Wonderlich; and her great grandchildren, Eli Colungo and Wyatt Hill.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents; her two brothers, Jerry Davis and Steve Davis; and her son-in-law, John Dougan.
