Borman-to-Manion connection fuels Central women’s soccer win

PELLA — In the Central College women’s soccer team’s 3-0 win against Beloit College (Wis.) Saturday afternoon, midfielder Jacie Borman (Eagan, Minn.) found striker Erin Manion (senior, Delafield, Wis., Kettle Moraine HS) for two goals.

The Dutch (5-2-1) scored in the first 13 minutes and then led the rest of the way against the Bucs (1-7). Central outshot Beloit 35-3, registering 16 shots on goal.

“We played some really good soccer today,” Kobylinski said. “I think our whole team really combined well and I think we had a good full 90 minutes.

The first Manion goal came at 12:46 before getting her second at 63:10. She leads the team with nine goals while Borman has a team-high seven assists.

“I told Erin ‘I hope you’re buying Jacie some steak dinners because she is feeding you well,’” Kobylinski said. “Erin is a good mentor for Jacie and is really helping her out there.”

Sandwiched around the two Manion goals, forward Sophia Sanchez (junior, Des Moines, Lincoln HS) scored unassisted in the 33rd minute.

“Sophia tucked one away literally 20 seconds after subbing in,” Kobylinski said. “She was a workhorse up top and stepped up in that first half and helped us.”

Central wraps up the non-conference slate with a trip to the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire for a 4 p.m. match on Sunday afternoon.

‘They’re going to be good,” Kobylinski said. “We were able to rest a lot of players today so hopefully we’ll be hungry and sharp tomorrow.”
