Oskaloosa–Eduardo Bonatto (So., Rio Grande, Brazil, Business Management) was selected as one of the league’s top players as he led a group of four William Penn men’s soccer players onto the all-Heart of America Athletic Conference teams which were announced Tuesday.

Bonatto was chosen for the 13-player first team, while Luis Amezquita (Jr., Inglewood, Calif., Sociology), Kenedy Deviska (Fr., Pignon, Haiti, Wellness and Recreation), and Amgad Hassan (Jr., Falls Church, Va., Computer Science) were members of the 13-individual third squad. An additional 13 student-athletes were named to the second team. The award is the first for all four individuals.

The foursome guided WPU to its most-successful campaign in school history, going 14-4 overall with an 8-3 league mark. The Statesmen broke numerous records, most notably for wins, consecutive wins, and league wins in addition to being ranked for the first time ever.

Bonatto has thus far managed four goals and a team-high five assists for a squad-best 13 total points. The sophomore, who was once named Heart Offensive Player of the Week, has tallied two game-winning goals. He is fourth in the conference in shots per game (2.76), ninth in game-winners, and 10th in assists.

Amezquita has scored twice this fall in addition to four assists for eight points. The junior has produced one game-winner this season.

Deviska leads the navy and gold with six goals in addition to one assist to tie Bonatto with 13 points. The freshman has also matched Bonatto with a pair of game-winning tallies.

No one has been better at late-game heroics than Hassan, though, as all four of his goals have served as the difference-maker. He ranks second in the Heart in that category.

Regular-season champion Central Methodist nearly swept the Heart’s top honors. The Eagles won Player and Offensive Player of the Year (Adrian Gutierrez), Defensive Player of the Year (Wilfried Nyamsi), Freshman of the Year (Daniel Hernandez), and Coach of the Year (Alex Nichols). Newcomer of the Year laurels went to Felipe Hideki of MidAmerica Nazarene.
