Bobbie Robinson, 95 of Marshalltown and formerly of What Cheer passed away Saturday afternoon, November 2, 2019 at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown. Bobbie Bruce Robinson was born near Thornburg, Iowa on September 27, 1924.

Bobbie graduated from Thornburg High School in 1942 with a graduating class of eight.

Bob enlisted in the United States Navy V-5 Flight Cadet program and completed two semesters at the University of Iowa before being called to active duty in the Navy in August of 1943. He graduated as an Ensign at NAS in Pensacola, Florida just as the war ended in September of 1945. He remained in the US Navy serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt as a Helldiver pilot and was honorably discharged from active duty in December of 1946. Bob was active in the United States Navy Reserve until 1973. He retired as a Commander after serving two tours as Commanding Officer of two Reserved Patrol Squadrons.

Bob married Patricia Davis in January of 1947 and had three daughters: Lynn, Sandra and Karen.

From 1947 to 1973, Bob worked for his father who was a Ford Dealer in What Cheer. He had brief stints as a flight instructor.

Bob and Patricia moved to Fort Pierce, Florida in 1974. He worked briefly for the fixed base operator in Stuart, Florida and then opened his own flight school at the Stuart Airport. He sold the business in 1985 and managed the school for two years. He quit flying in 1987 and went to Hobe Sound Bible College for two semesters. Bob moved back to Iowa full time in 2001 and considered What Cheer, Iowa his home.

Bobbie is survived by his three daughters: Lynn (& Keith) Perkins of Oskaloosa, Sandra (& Maynard) Huffman of New Sharon and Karen Kauffman of Oskaloosa; four grandchildren: Christian Huffman, Krysti Gregg, Clint Little and Chad Little; eight grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Bobbie was preceded in death by his parents; and four siblings: Albert James Robinson, Helyne Louise Robinson, Mary Belle White, and Davey O Robinson.

As was Bobbie’s wish, no services are planned.
A private burial will be held in the White Oak Cemetery near Thornburg. Holland-Coble Funeral Chapel of What Cheer is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the What Cheer Opera House and sent to the Holland-Coble Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 325, What Cheer, Iowa 50268.
