Oskaloosa, Iowa — August 22, 2014 — Blue Zones Project® Oskaloosa today announced another employer earning Blue Zones Worksite® designation. MidWestOne Bank® was designated after completing the necessary items in the Blue Zones Worksite pledge, such as providing incentives to participate in wellness activies, developing an on-site fitness center, and having a weekly walking group during the lunch hour to local restaurants.

MidWestOne Bank celebrated the success of this achievement with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony followed by fresh fruit and conversation the morning of Friday, August 22, in the main bank lobby of MidWestOne located at 124 S. 1st Street.

“Being a Blue Zones Worksite speaks to the commitment of our employees to make healthy choices,” said Jane Krutzfeldt, investment services assistant at MidWestOne Bank and co-chair of the Blue Zones Project Power 9 leadership committee. “We can’t live our mission to take great care of our customers if we don’t take great care of ourselves as well.”

“The Blue Zones Project team has greatly enjoyed working with MidWestOne Bank during their designation process,” said Engagement Lead Miranda Cummings. “Many of the employees have also taken one step further by either volunteering for Blue Zones Project events, holding positions on Blue Zones Project committees or participating in Blue Zones Project community activities.”

“One of the key operating principals of our organization is to ‘Work as One Team.’ One of the ways we do this is by supporting each other to make healthy decisions,” said Sandy Bailey, retail market manager for MidWestOne.

MidWestOne is the third largest publicly traded financial organization headquartered in the state of Iowa based on asset size. 381 employees serve customers from 25 locations within 19 communities across the eastern half of Iowa.

Brought to Iowa through an innovative sponsorship by Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield, in collaboration with Healthways and Blue Zones®, Blue Zones Project is a community-by-community well-being improvement initiative designed to make healthy choices easier through permanent changes to environment, policy, and social networks.
