January 28, 1977 – May 11, 2020
Oskaloosa, Iowa | Age 45

Billy Spratt, 45, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, May 11, 2020, at the MHP Hospital Emergency Room in Oskaloosa. Billy was born January 28, 1975, in Clarinda, Iowa, the son of Samuel R. and Patricia Watters Spratt, Jr.

When Billy was ten his father died in an industrial accident. Years after the accident Billy’s mom married Robert Draughn. Bob took Billy in as his own and truly became his second father.

Billy graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1993. He furthered his education at Indian Hills Community College, earning a certificate in automotive technology.

Billy had a knack for fixing things. In high school he worked at the Goodyear Store in Oskaloosa working in the shop and running the service truck. He later took a job a Lafrenz Motors in the service area working on cars. In 1998, he took a job at Pella Corp. In 2011, he decided he could no longer take being cooped up in a building all day and took a job working for Mahaska Pork and Graneva Farms. This position allowed him to utilize his “fix anything/can do” attitude. He enjoyed the variety of the farm and the people he was able to work with daily.

Billy loved to be in the timber, especially cutting wood. In 2010, Billy and his brother D.J. formed S&D Firewood, the two of them sold countless truckloads of firewood all over Mahaska County.

Billy truly loved working on cars, in fact he liked it so much he built friendships with people with racecars. He loved the sport of racing and knew that no one needed more help working on cars than people with racecars. He especially enjoyed working on figure 8 cars with his brother in their mom’s front yard. He was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan and followed NASCAR closely when Dale was racing. After Dale’s death he became more interested in dirt track racing in the area. He also enjoyed watching his brother wrestle and play baseball. Billy looked forward to watching WWE Monday Night Raw, and was sure to be in the arena when they came to Des Moines. Billy had a servant heart and was always willing to lend a hand to those that needed help.

His family includes his mother and her husband, Patricia and Robert Draughn of Oskaloosa; his lifelong partner, Tamy Witt of Wright; Tamy’s son, Trenton Witt of Oskaloosa; a sister, Wendy Spratt of Des Moines; two brothers and their wives, J.R.
