Betty Dilley, 95, of Oskaloosa passed away Saturday morning, September 19, 2020, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. Betty Irene Dilley, daughter of Martin and Gertie Engelking Alpers, was born on August 19, 1925, in Atkins, Iowa.

Growing up, Betty experienced living all over Iowa, due to her father’s career. The family eventually settled in the Gibson/Thornburg area, and Betty finished her education at Deep River High School. Nurses training brought Betty to Oskaloosa, where she met Dale “Jim” Dilley. They married March 8, 1947, in Oskaloosa.

Betty received her L.P.N. training at Mahaska County Hospital, and worked there for the first eleven years of her career. In 1956, Betty began assisting Dr. Dubois as his nurse. After 20 years with Dr. Dubois, she took a job at the county home; she worked there for three years, and then the Oskaloosa Community Schools hired her as the school nurse. She retired in 1985.

Betty was a member of the Beacon United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, and the Eagles. She loved to be outdoors and enjoyed camping with friends at Branson, Missouri, fishing, mowing yards, flower gardening. She also enjoyed working in the American Legion kitchen and helping with steak nights.

Betty is survived by several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Norma Alpers of Gibson, Iowa.

Besides her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Dale; an infant sister, Ethel; two brothers: Virgil and Ralph Alpers; and a sister-in-law, Miriam Alpers.

Funeral services for Betty will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma of the Good News Chapel officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral chapel.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.

According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and appropriate personal protective equipment are advised for attending this public event.
The service will be available to view on the Langkamp Funeral Chapel’s YouTube channel Wednesday afternoon for those unable to attend the ceremony.
