Beatty, Parsons Honored on Gridiron

William Penn University Athletics

Oskaloosa–Taylor Parsons (Jr., The Woodlands, Texas, Sociology) and Greg Beatty (So., Brooklyn, Iowa, Industrial Technology) were recognized for their efforts last week as the Midwest League weekly honors were announced today.

Parsons garnered his fourth career (first in 2012) Offensive Player of the Week award, while Beatty picked up the first Defensive POW laurel of his career. They were integral in William Penn’s 36-25 victory over Trinity International last Saturday.

Parsons rushed 24 times for 103 yards and three touchdowns and also completed 4-of-9 passes for 121 yards and another score. It is the seventh time he has accounted for at least four touchdowns.

His performance allowed him to topple one of the biggest and oldest records in school history. The junior quarterback now has 41 career rushing touchdowns, surpassing Jack Boender’s old mark of 39 scores from 1958-1960.

For the year, Parsons has accumulated up 581 rushing yards (8 TDs) and 453 passing yards (3 TDs).

Beatty produced his best showing in the navy and gold, tallying eight tackles (one for loss) and two interceptions. The defensive end has 34 tackles (six for loss), two sacks, and two interceptions in his sophomore season. William Penn has now forced 28 turnovers, including 17 interceptions, this fall.

The awards are the sixth and seventh for William Penn.
