Austin Osmond, 77 of New Sharon passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022 at his home in New Sharon. Austin Edwin Osmond, the son of Martin and Dorothy (Eveland) Osmond, was born on September 5, 1944 in New Sharon, Iowa.

Austin graduated from North Mahaska High School with the class of 1962. He then attended William Penn College in Oskaloosa receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy in 1966. During the summer before his sophomore year at William Penn, Austin began working for Taintor Co-Op.

On July 10, 1971, Austin was united in marriage to Carol Johnson at the New Sharon United Methodist Church. To this union two children were born, Eric and Staci. Austin and Carol raised their family in New Sharon.

Austin continued to work for Taintor Co-Op. He was based out of the New Sharon office but helped in the other locations. He retired in 2000 after 37 years with the company.

Austin had a love for model trains, spending many hours tinkering and building buildings for his train set. He also enjoyed the outdoors; mowing his lawn or spending time in the fields while he was working. He loved the community of New Sharon and was very involved in the community serving on several different community boards. Austin was instrumental in keeping the New Sharon Historical Society and Museum up and going. He also served on the New Sharon Spring Festival Committee, he volunteered at the North Mahaska School reading to students, was a member of the New Sharon’s Lions Club, he served several years on the New Sharon Fire and Rescue, was a FFA Advisor for North Mahaska High School and was the Grand Marshall of the 150th Anniversary Spring Festival parade. Austin also was a member of the New Sharon United Methodist Church.

His memory will be honored by his children, Eric Osmond of New Sharon and Staci (& Wil Pantier) Osmond of West Des Moines; along with many other friends.

Austin was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Dorothy Osmond; and his wife, Carol Osmond in 2017.

As was his wish, his body has been cremated and no services are scheduled. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.
