Oskaloosa, Iowa – Oskaloosa teenager Deacon Cox felt inspired by his teacher to find a way to help the world out in the wake of September 11th.

Along with assistance from his family, Deacon reached out to do yard work and other tasks for donations.

His mother, Nolie Rust, offered to help make enchiladas, and they sold those by the pans, donating the money as part of the project.

Deacon says that the experience has made him happy that he could help.

David Cox, the father of Deacon, said that his son’s generosity isn’t surprising. “Really proud of what they are doing.”

Nolie said that “he’s got a golden heart… he always wants to help others.”

With the Oskaloosa Legion Riders, Robert Nelson accepted the donation that will go towards the Legacy Foundation that helps the families of veterans from 9/11 and after to provide scholarships for college.
