Ardith Armstrong, 88, of Oskaloosa, passed away on Monday, August 29, 2022, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born April 13, 1934, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Rex and Nellie (Adams) Hemsley.

Ardith attended What Cheer High School and graduated with the Class of 1951.

On September 25, 1953, Ardith was united in marriage to Andrew “Andy” Armstrong in What Cheer, Iowa. Andrew passed away on December 21, 1983.

Following her marriage, Ardith stayed home to raise her family and take care of her home. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa. She enjoyed genealogy, traveling, cross stitching, and photography. She always kept in touch with her family near and far. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her world. She loved getting together with them for lunch, a good game of tripoley, and looking at pictures on Facebook.

Her family includes her children: Dennis Armstrong of What Cheer, Lynn Anne Armstrong of Oskaloosa, Michael (& Cheryl) Armstrong of What Cheer and Colleen (& Lee) Dennis of What Cheer; her grandchildren: Shannon Stanley, Jay (& Nikki) Dennis, Jennifer (& Jake) Pavlovec, Michelle (& Janna Hammes) Armstrong, Andrew (& Jodi) Flaherty, Bridget (& Mike Tunney) Flaherty, Erin (& Ryan) Bolkema, Meaghan (& fiancé Roy Best) Flaherty, Patrick (& Joslyn Schaffner) Flaherty; Great grandchildren: Ayson, Jaxen, Declan Dennis, Gwen, Zane, and Kai Pavlovec, Colin and Colton Flaherty, Sullivan and Quinn Stanley, Parker and Spencer Bolkema. She is also survived by her special cousins Gene and Roger Roland.

She was preceded in death by her husband Andy; her parents, Rex and Nellie; grandchildren, Denny Downing and Michael Armstrong Jr.; and great grandchildren, Audrey Pavlovec and Finn Bolkema; and lifelong friend, Jan Carmer.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Thursday, September 1, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Oskaloosa with Father Troy Richmond officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery in What Cheer. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Wednesday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the Rosary will be prayed at 4:30, the family will be at the funeral chapel following the Rosary until 7 Wednesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Church or the MHP Serenity House.
