April Player of the Month Accolades Earned by Putzier, Burt
Oskaloosa–The William Penn University Athletics Booster Club has announced the recipients of the April Player of the Month laurels.
Junior men’s lacrosse player Breck Putzier (Minneapolis, Minn., Exercise Science) earned the Male award, while junior women’s track and field athlete Phoebe Burt (Iowa City, Iowa, Sociology) claimed the Female honor. The laurel is the second in Putzier’s career, while Burt is a first-time winner.
During the month (seven games), Putzier scored 21 goals with 26 assists (47 total points). He also recorded 22 ground balls and five caused turnovers. His efforts helped WPU to a 6-1 record, including a win over Benedictine in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship Finals, which earned the Statesmen their first-ever trip to the NAIA National Invitational.
In three meets, Burt placed in the top 10 on five occasions, including recording three third-place finishes. Her month was highlighted by breaking the school’s discus record and hitting the ‘A’ standard with a mark of 144-8.
