Andrew Ritland Announces Candidacy for Mahaska County Attorney

April 2, 2018 – Assistant Wapello County Attorney Andrew Ritland has announced he is running for the Republican nomination for Mahaska County Attorney. Current County Attorney James Blomgren has decided not to run for another term, creating a vacancy in the office. After graduating from the University of Iowa College of Law with high distinction, Mr. Ritland has been an assistant prosecutor in Wapello County since 2011. In that position, he has prosecuted over 1,000 felony cases including attempted murder, robbery, arson, and burglary. As an experience trial attorney, he has sought justice for hundreds of victims over the years. “As a prosecutor, my primary responsibility is to seek justice; justice for victims and justice for the community. If elected County Attorney, I will continue to ensure defendants are held accountable for their crimes.” Mr. Ritland was also recently appointed by the Iowa Supreme Court to serve on the Grievance Commission for the Eighth Judicial District. The Grievance Commission holds fact-finding hearings on ethical complaints filed against attorneys practicing in Iowa. Mr. Ritland has a passion for community service and is an active member in his community as an elder and treasurer in the Ottumwa Seventh-day Adventist Church. Mr. Ritland and his wife, Lily, have one daughter.
