Alice Rozanne “Rosie” Smith, 73, of Oskaloosa and formerly Des Moines, went to her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born April 5, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of M.F. and Janet (Forster) Baker.

Rosie grew up and attended school in Des Moines.

On November 27, 1965, she was united in marriage to Ronald Bell Smith. Ron died on July 18, 1990.

Early on Rosie did custodial work at Dallas Elementary School and in Knoxville. As her girls became more independent, Rosie decided to start the journey of becoming a Registered Nurse. In 1993, she completed her journey at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa and earned her R.N. Degree. Upon earning her degree, she worked as a nurse for a short time. Rosie held various other jobs throughout her life including, managing apartment buildings, and working in various retail stores.

Rosie was a past member of the Faith Baptist Church in Knoxville. Rosie had a very close personal relationship with Jesus Christ. In her free time, she enjoyed reading her bible and listening to gospel music. She enjoyed listening to Billy Graham and growing in her faith. She also enjoyed going for walks. Later in life she found a love for the Kansas City Chiefs and always had their schedule on her fridge, so she never missed a game.

Her family includes her three daughters: Nancy (& Mike) Kingery of Peoria, Illinois, Kathy (& Cary) Carney of Altoona, and Sheri (& John Oliver) Pace of University Park; seven grandchildren: Amber Masters, Brett Kingery, Brady Pace, Jared Pace, Trent Pace, Daylan Carney, and Carson Carney; a great grandson, Elliot Pace; her sister, Laura Marie Ingram of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Rosie was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Gerald, Charles, and James Baker; and a sister, MedaEileen Baker.

As was Alice’s wish her body has been cremated and no services are planned. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
