Adults Enjoy Retro Game Night
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The technology that helped a generation never see the inside of a library is finding new life inside the library.
With a new movie about to hit the big screen involving some video game characters from the past, people are talking about retro games. At the Oskaloosa Public Library, adults are reliving their youth with Retro Game Night.
The idea for the retro game night for adults came from the retro game nights for teens, when the adults wanted to join in the fun themselves. From that point on, the adults broke out their Atari 2600’s and Saga Genesis and Nintendos for a walk down memory lane.
“You probably have these things in your closets, or you play them at home still,” said Oskaloosa Library Director William Ottens, while the sounds of Mario filled the room.
The Nintendos are always popular with those revisiting their childhood memories.
Ottens said that the library “is the communities living room” and that it helps to provide entertainment, resources. “Just another way to get people into the library,” said Ottens, who believes that once a patron comes through the door, they may find other resources that are available.
