KNOXVLLE, Iowa (July 20, 2017) – On a very hot and humid night at the Knoxville Raceway the IMCA Modifieds pounded the historic black zook clay oval in the second running of the Dynamic Drivelines Dirt Duel! 37 Modifieds and 36 SportMods entered on this night where temperatures reached 100 degrees forcing race officials to push the start time back an hour.

In the IMCA Modified class Chris Abelson of Sioux City, Iowa led all 25 laps taking the $1,000 winner’s prize! Abelson pulled away to a big lead but a couple of late cautions bunched up the field. The last five laps saw Todd Shute and Richie Gustin challenge for the lead late but Abelson was able to hold on to get the win! Shute finished second after starting eleventh and Gustin was third. The Modified event held four heat races with only the top three transferring the A Main while the rest of the field was split into two B Mains where the top five of each of those transferred to the A Main.

The 20 lap IMCA SportMod feature was also a great race. Curtis VanDerWal of Oskaloosa took the lead on lap three from Brayton Carter and never looked back as the race went non-stop. VanDerWal would navigate his way through lapped traffic flawlessly on his way to winning for the second consecutive year. Tim Plummer finished second after passing Carter just passed halfway while Carter finished third.

Join us this Saturday night for 3M Night for the Lucas Oil Knoxville Championship Cup Series! All three classes of sprint cars will be in action. Kids ages 12 and under are free admission and there will be a candy dash on the front stretch thanks to Casey’s General Store!
