Harry Johnson, 89, of Oskaloosa and formerly of New Sharon, passed away Friday afternoon, February 22, 2019 at the Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Oskaloosa. Harry Arthur Johnson, the son of Orville and Mildred (Evans) Johnson, was born on July 5, 1929 on the family farm near New Sharon, Iowa.

Harry was a 1946 graduate of Lacey High School.

On March 1, 1949, Harry was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Etta Baughman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union four children were born, Cathy, Larry, Connie and Scott.

Harry was a life long farmer and farmed south of Union Mills near New Sharon his entire life. When Harry decided to retire from farming, he worked for the COOP in New Sharon during the harvest season for over 15 years.

He enjoyed collecting several different things that included: guns and toy tractors just to name a few. He also enjoyed going to gun shows and loved history and genealogy. He enjoyed antique tractors and was very proud of his B Farmall that he eventually donated to the Nelson Pioneer Farm near Oskaloosa. He was a member of NRA and the Lacey United Methodist Church.

His legacy will be honored by his wife of nearly 70 years, Mary Etta Johnson of Oskaloosa; four children: Cathy (& Larry) LaRue of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Larry (& Donna) Johnson of New Sharon; Connie (& David) DeYoung of Des Moines and Scott (& Kristen) Johnson of Murrieta, California; 11 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and many other relatives and friends.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Harlan, Dorothy and Belva.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at the Lacey United Methodist Church.
Burial will be held in the Union Mills Cemetery near New Sharon. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Monday, February 25, 2019 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lacey United Methodist Church or the New Sharon Fire and Rescue.
