Dutch women’s soccer team wins sportsmanship award
PELLA — For the third year in a row, the Central College women’s soccer team was awarded the United Soccer Coaches Silver Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award Wednesday.
The Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award is given to United Soccer Coaches member schools at four different levels. Silver level honors are the third-tier, behind Platinum and Gold.
Previously, the Dutch women were honored at the Gold level in 2016 and the Bronze level in 2017. The program was also honored at the Silver level in 2014.
The Dutch women were one of 167 men’s and women’s teams across all levels of collegiate soccer, and one of three teams in the Iowa Conference to receive any level of distinction.
Award levels are awarded based on percentages calculated by the total number of cards received by players or coaches divided by the team’s total number of games. In 18 total games this year, Central received three yellow cards and no red cards.
Central finished the season with a 10-7-1 overall record, including a 4-4 mark in American Rivers Conference matches.
