Indians Compete At Newton Invitational

The Oskaloosa Indians traveled to Newton to take part in their Invitational swim meet on Saturday and ended up scoring 122 points on the day while taking on Newton, Indianola, Decorah, Grinnell, and Vinton-Shellsburg. Newton is one of the few Meter pools in the state, so all times listed below will be longer than normal.

The first event of the day was the 200 Medley Relay. The first swimmer swims the Backstroke, the second the Breaststroke, the third swims the Fly, and the fourth swims the Free. Osky sent 2 teams to the varsity race heats to get the day started. The first team of Josh Hartl, Andrew Scholes, Lucca Claro, and Aaron Scholes finished in a time of 2:55.85 as many of the swimmers swam a new stroke for the first time. The second team of, Carson Breon, Jarod Miller, Colin Fiechtner, and Owen Gordon, finished in a time of 2:06.36 and earned a 4th place finish.

Oskaloosa sent the Freshman, Keygan Roberts to the blocks to swim the 200 Free and he came away with a time of 2:49.52 for the Indians to take away the 9th place finish.

Next up on the blocks was Carson Breon as he finished in a time of 2:35.08 in the 200 Individual Medley to earn a 5th place finish.

The next event was the 50 Free as Osky sent 3 swimmers to compete. Trae Jarvis finished in a time of 44.47, Lucca Claro finished in 33.58, and Owen Gordon took home the third-place finish for the Indians as he swam a 27.46 for a nice spot on the podium to receive his medal.

The 100 Meter Freestyle event was next as Osky again sent 3 swimmers to compete. Osky’s Trae Jarvis finished in a time of 1:48.05, Aaron Scholes finished in a time of 1:20.48 and Keygan Roberts finished in 1:14.04 for a 9th place finish

In the 200 Free Relay, Oskaloosa sent 2 teams again. The first team of Aaron Scholes, Andrew Scholes, Josh Hartl, and Lucca Claro finished in a time of 2:25.56 and the team of Jarod Miller, Colin Fiechtner, Keygan Roberts, and Carson Breon finished in a time of 1:58.43 for an 8th place finish.

After a short break, the 100 Backstroke was next, and Owen Gordon swam it for the Indians as he earned a time of 1:10.92 for a 4th place finish.

In the 200 Breaststroke Aaron Scholes swam a 1:37.57 for the Indians while Jarod Miller swam a 1:20.91 to earn a 6th place finish.

The last event for the day was the 400 Freestyle Relay as the team of Carson Breon, Colin Fiechtner, Owen Gordon, and Jarod Miller took home the 4th place finish in a time of 4:08.92.

Next up for the Indians is the Grinnell invite on Saturday as Osky will be competing against Des Moines East, Indianola, Linn-Mar, Ottumwa, Vinton-Shellsburg and Grinnell at the very nice and large Grinnell College Bear Recreation center. It is a great place to come and watch the boys swim as the meet starts at 11:00 am.
