Agnes Riley, 80 of Montezuma passed away Friday morning, September 21, 2018 at the Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa. Agnes Irene Riley, the daughter of Clayton and Opal (Vought) Tish, was born February 12, 1938 on the family farm north of Montezuma.

Agnes attended Pleasant Country Schools and Montezuma Community School.

On November 5, 1955, Agnes was united in marriage to Max Riley. To this union four children were born, Teresa, Diana, Patrick and Mark.

They farmed near Delta and Agnes was a farmer’s wife and homemaker. She also worked several years at Amana Refrigeration before moving to Montezuma in the late 1970’s. She held various jobs in the Montezuma area including waitressing at Hometown Café, Montezuma School Kitchen and housekeeping at the Montezuma Nursing Home.

Agnes was an avid reader and enjoyed birdwatching, quilting, traveling anywhere west, circle puzzles, dancing and playing the guitar and singing.

Her memory will be honored by her children: Teresa Ehret of Newton, Diana (& Randy) Sherman of Oskaloosa and Patrick Riley of Montezuma; seven grandchildren: Michelle (& Shawn) Van Gorp, Cory (& Cassie) Blommers, Crystal Sherman, Candi Sherman, Jesse Riley, Christopher Riley and Patricia McCartney; 12 great grandchildren; two sisters, Iva Tinkle of Malcom and Kathryn Sellers of North Liberty; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Mark Riley; four siblings: Orpha Mabeus, Donald Tish, Mildred Bringmann and Thelma Slechta; and two close friends, Jasper Heimstra and Paul Pargeon.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 am until the time of service.
Burial will be held at a later date. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Montezuma Ambulance.
