Team academic award given to Central baseball program
PELLA— The Central College baseball team was recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Association for its work in the classroom, receiving the Team Academic Excellence Award.
The Dutch compiled a 3.05 combined team grade point average (4.0 scale) to qualify for the honor. Central was one of 80 NCAA Division III programs recognized and one of just three schools from the American Rivers Conference.
In 2018, Garrett Saunders (senior, Bonaparte, Van Buren HS) was a Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-District pick in addition to his Academic all-Iowa Conference recognition. Ryan Bouwman (senior, Bloomington, Ill., Normal HS), Corey Broxson (grad, Guttenberg, Clayton Ridge HS), Kaiden Fiebelkorn (sophomore, Brooklyn, BGM HS), Zach Greder (senior, Sloan, Westwood HS), Brent Parker (senior, Bussey, Twin Cedars HS), Dallyn Putz (senior, Manchester, West Delaware), Tanner Wood (senior, Pella) and Blake Wooten (junior, Peoria, Ariz., Centennial HS) also earned academic all-conference honors in the spring.
Central finished the season with a 16-23 record, including a 7-16 mark in conference games.
