Ruth Mitchell, 82, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born October 19, 1935, in Des Moines, the daughter of Charles Henry and Arietta Roland Hoffman.

Early on Ruth worked as a nanny for the Hockenberg family in Des Moines.

On September 14, 1976, she was united in marriage to Arthur Mitchell in Des Moines. Art died on April 22, 2013.

Ruth worked as a nurse’s aide first at Bishop Drumm Nursing home in Des Moines and later at various other nursing homes. In 2008, Ruth and Art moved to Oskaloosa.

Ruth was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa. She enjoyed painting and coloring. She earned several blue ribbons for her paintings. She also enjoyed putting puzzles together and having her pets around. She and Art also enjoyed volunteering for the Salvation Army.

Her family includes her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Art, Ruth was preceded in death by two brothers, Alonzo and George Hoffman; and three sisters: Ida May Hoffman, Alice Hoffman, and Dorothy Duckett.

As was Ruth’s wish her body has been cremated.
A time of remembrance will be held Monday, August 27, 2018, at 6 p.m. in the activity room at Homestead in Oskaloosa.
Burial of the urn will be at a later date in the University Park Cemetery.
