Central tennis teams, 14 players win academic awards

PELLA— Central College’s men’s and women’s tennis teams are back on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award list.

Additionally, 14 student-athletes captured ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition.

The men’s squad compiled a 3.41 combined team grade point average (4.0 scale) and posted a 15-12 overall record. The Dutch women tallied a 3.36 GPA and had a 13-4 mark. Both teams earned third-place finishes in the Iowa Conference

To receive the team distinction, a squad’s combined GPA must be a 3.2 or above.

Eight men and six women were named ITA Scholar-Athletes. To qualify for the individual honor, student-athletes must be a varsity letterwinner, have attended the institution at least two semesters and achieve a 3.5 or higher GPA for the academic year.

Tom Palmer (grad, Pella) was recognized for the fourth time while fellow Pella native Colin Jones (senior) was picked for the third time. Danny Anderson (junior, Boone), C.J. Cliff (grad, Decorah), Carl Peterson (junior, Tucson, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy) and Scott Wilson (grad, Urbandale) were chosen for a second time. First-time selections were William Isiminger (sophomore, North Aurora, Ill., West Aurora HS) and Garret Taylor (grad, Creston).

May graduates EmmaGrace Walter (Johnston) and Paige Vannausdle (Red Oak) were awarded for third time while Jenna Stewart (senior, Burlington, Notre Dame HS) and Sami Thompson (junior, Knoxville) were recognized for the second time. First-time selections were sophomores Kaysey Bos (Genseo, Ill.) and Karleigh Schilling (Swisher, Cedar Rapids Prairie HS)
