Jack Frederick Fairchild, Sr., 84, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, February 24, 2018, at his home in Martinsburg. He was born Wednesday, June the 7th, 1933, in Martinsburg, the son of Bertram Charles and Lillian Mae Ingle Fairchild.

Following school, Jack went to work for the railroad. In 1953, Jack was drafted into the U.S. Army and he was discharged in 1956.

Following his discharge, Jack went to work for McCurdy Seed and later drove truck for Barry, Inc., MNX and lastly for Reilly Construction in Ossian, Iowa for 19 years. Jack was very proud to be accident free for 18 years while working at Reilly.

On February 3, 1967, Jack was united in marriage to Roberta Cronk at Lancaster, Missouri.

Jack enjoyed camping, fishing, mushroom hunting and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed taking his kids skating in his younger years. Jack loved playing volleyball with his family and was still actively playing at the age of 78.

He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Roberta Fairchild of Martinsburg; three daughters: Sherri (& Joseph) Lahvic of Monroe City, Missouri, Shelley (& Brad) Van Rheenen of Monroe, Iowa and Jacqueline Janssens of Hedrick; a son, Rodney (& Laura) Fairchild of Bloomfield; 24 grandchildren: Jack (& Jamie) Fairchild, III, Pam (& Jeff) Bowden, Jeanette (& James) Draper, Jason (& Katie) Fairchild, Theresa (& Dan) Bastian, David (& Sherri) Lahvic, Matthew (& Stephanie) Lahvic, Suzanne Brendlinger, Eric (& Jackie) Johnson, Michael (& Anita) Van Rheenen, Sarah (& Scott) Johnson, Travis (& Valerie) Fairchild, Michael Post (& Jean Luzadder), Brock Green, and Brooke Fairchild; 33 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; a brother, Bertram (& Charlene) Fairchild, Jr. of Fairfield; two sisters-in-law: Connie (& Richard) Phillips of Martinsburg and Patricia Wolf of Ottumwa; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jack (& Barb) Fairchild, Jr.; a son-in-law, David Janssens; a grandson, John Fairchild; a great granddaughter, Lillian Diann Nichols; two sisters: Jane and Patricia; and two brothers: Richard and Robert.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at 6 P.M. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont.
As was his wish, Jack’s body will be cremated following the service.
No burial of his cremated remains is planned.
Visitation will begin Wednesday, February 28, 2018, after 2 P.M. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Wednesday from 4 – 6 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Military rites will be given at the funeral chapel following the service.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Jack’s family.
