PELLA — The Iowa Conference leader in tackles, Central College linebacker Tyler Olson (senior, Mapleton, Minn., Maple River HS) was selected to the D3football.com All-West Region third team.

It is the sixth consecutive season that a Dutch player has been chosen to the all-region team. Olson is the third Dutch linebacker to have been selected to the D3football all-region team since its origin in 2005. Greg Altmaier (first team) and Andrew Lehn (third team) were both selected in 2007.

With 107 tackles in 10 games this season, Olson was tied with fellow inside linebacker Sam Norgaard (senior, Naperville, Ill., Neuqua Valley HS) for the most on the team and in the league. He snared four interceptions, the sixth most of any player in the conference and the most by a linebacker. Olson also forced two forced fumbles, had five pass break-ups and two sacks.

Olson was named the Iowa Conference defensive player of the week twice this season. He first earned the award after Central’s 35-17 win over Simpson on September 30 in which he had a fourth-quarter interception and was credited with two tackles on Central’s game-changing goal line stand in the third. A 20-tackle performance against Luther on November 6 elicited the second honor.

The Dutch finished the season 7-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play, taking second place.
