TEAM Mahaska’s Web Site Active and Updated

OSKALOOSA — A little history: Nearly 17 years ago, TEAM Mahaska – a group of concerned citizens representing businesses, governments, educational institutions, Mahaska County, and the incorporated communities of the county – embarked upon an effort to enhance and ensure the highest quality of life possible for its 22,000+ citizens. The TEAM, representing Together Enhancing All of Mahaska, utilized data from series of neighborhood meetings held throughout the county where residents’ needs, wants, priorities, and concerns were addressed. More than 700 people attended those public forums, and one of the tangible results of that effort was the creation of web site for communication and dissemination of specific community data and county-wide events.

The website TeamMahaska.org was born. The site and calendar have been active since its inception; however, it did not have the far-reaching impact originally envisioned. As technology has changed and with updates and improvements, TeamMahaska.org remains a viable site where site visitors will find it easier to find what they’re looking for: community data, enhanced information addressing demographics, employment tools, statistics, and links of interest to residents and area grant writers. A prominent link now takes site visitors to an improved community calendar which resides on a new site, everythingMAHASKA.org.

This sister site has been created to focus on the superb Mahaska Community quality of life and tourism. It provides information on amenities, upcoming events, attractions, activities, things to do, places to see, concerts, workshops, club meetings, and is continually evolving to include as much information as possible. everythingMAHASKA.org also includes the user-friendly ultimate community calendar.

everythingMAHASKA.org will be the source of discovering Mahaska County. It is a site where residents and visitors alike will bookmark and check regularly. It’s simple to use and includes simply everything. Pam Blomgren, current content coordinator for both sites, said If site visitors can’t find it, just use the contact form on the home page to let her know. Some of the calendar’s benefits include:

· Filters to help finding specific events or types of events

· Month, week, day, list and poster board views

· Details of events can be seen by hovering instead of clicking

· Subscription option in development so events are delivered directly to email addresses

· Front-end calendar submission allowing anyone to add community events without a log-in process (subject to approval and guidelines)

· Businesses, organizations, communities can embed the calendar in to their own web sites simply by asking

· No fees are involved for placing events on the calendar or for embedding into web sites
