Central lands five on academic men’s basketball squad

PELLA— A quintet of players from the 2016-17 Central College men’s basketball team earned a spot on the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court.

Graduated seniors Austin Glawe (Aurelia, Alta-Aurelia HS), Jordan Saddoris (Ankeny), Colby Taylor (Creston) and Pete Walker (Red Oak) as well as junior Jacob Hay (Stanwood, North Cedar HS) were recognized for the academic and athletic performances.

The NABC Honors Court recognizes juniors and seniors from NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA Division I and II schools who achieve a 3.2 GPA or better while playing varsity basketball.

Glawe graduated in May with a degree in exercise science, carrying a 3.52 GPA. The 6-5 forward averaged 9.1 points per game in his two-year career at Central after transferring into the program. He recorded four double-doubles and earned two varsity letters.

A two-time Academic all-Iowa Conference selection and a member of the NABC Allstate Good Works Team in 2016, Saddoris finished his business management degree with a 3.42 GPA. He earned two varsity letters and played in 15 games.

One of the most accomplished players in program history, Taylor completed his actuarial science degree with a 3.37 GPA. He is the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,856 points, averaging 16.7 per game. He also grabbed 890 rebounds while being named to the all-conference team three times.

Walker earned a 3.34 GPA while earning a degree in business management . He also averaged double figures in his career, pouring in 10.7 points per game. Walker was a second team all-conference pick as a junior and garnered honorable mention as a senior.

With one year remaining at Central, Hay maintains a 3.89 GPA in business management. He’s a two-time varsity letterwinner who has also earned academic all-conference twice recognition twice while playing in 52 games.

The Dutch went 16-12 last season, but won a pair of postseason games to advance to the Iowa Conference tournament championship game as a No. 5 seed.
