Oskaloosa Battles A Top Ranked Pella Team

Oskaloosa Indians

The girls’ soccer team was in action last night against the 2nd ranked Pella Dutch. The girls knew it would be an uphill battle with missing several players because of injuries and other commitments, but came out hard in the first 20 minutes.

The injury bug would continue in the game as starting keeper, Maddy Crile, would be forced out of the game after a hard collision in the box. The girls continued to play hard, but Pella would score four goals in the 1st half.

“Even with the rearranging and people playing in spots that aren’t their normal spots, I felt we did a pretty good job. Pella is a very good team and move the ball around really well and were able to finish their opportunities.”

The 2nd half would again see the Indians play hard and keeping the Dutch off the board for the first part, but the gas would run out and Pella would score 2 more for a final score of 6-0.

“This game was a lot of would of, should of, could of’s. I think that if Maddy doesn’t get hurt in the 1st half and we are able to keep our line-up (as small as it might have been), we could have limited Pella’s opportunities. However, I don’t want to take away from the effort the girls put in with many of them playing an entire 80 minutes of tough soccer. The defense worked hard and Kinsey did a really good job stepping back into goal and having 16 saves on the night.”

“We will learn from this game and hopefully use it as motivation to finish out the rest of the season. Who knows, we may get another shot at Pella when the regional pairings come out this week.”

The girls are back in action on Thursday as they will face South Tama in Tama starting at 5:30.
