Indians Win Mercy Rule Match
The Indians traveled to Washington to make-up Monday night’s game and wasted little time with the Demons. The girls would shoot and score often and beat the Demons 10-0 in the first half with the mercy rule kicking in at halftime.Oskaloosa would score just 50 seconds into the game off a shot from Kinsey Cook (assist from Aleeya Cheney). It would be another 10 minutes before the 2nd goal would come again from Cook (assist to Leah VanMaanen). The Indians would go onto score 3 more times over the next 24 minutes to lead 5-0 with just over 7 minutes left in the half. Goals would come from Cheney (assist to Cook), Mary Nelson (assist from Mac McCallum) and Cheney (assist from Cook). With a comfortable lead and the wind at the back, the Indians decided they wanted to end the game early and not have to face the wind in their face as they would score 5 goals in the last 7 minutes including 4 in a 2.5 minute span. Cheney scored the next 2 goals at the 36th and 37th minute (assist to McCallum and unassisted). The final 3 goals were scored by Ashley Brockman (Penalty Kick), Cheney (assist from VanMaanen) and Emily Lunsford (assist from VanMaanen and Cook).
“We are pleased that we went out and played a 1st half like we play a 2nd half. It can be easy to not play hard and execute in games that one team is dominating and for the most part we did a pretty good job of working hard and possessing. We still have things to work on and things we can get better at, but we will take a 10-0 1st half game. The girls put together some great passing combinations which opened up opportunities and we are looking to build on that as we move closer to regionals.”
The Indians are back in action against Fairfield with the 2nd to last home game of the year. Varsity is at 5:30 and the team would love a big crowd as they take on 8-1 Fairfield.
