Question of the Week: Has Christmas become too comericialized?

Last week we asked you if you supported the Mahaska Health Partnership expansion plans. 33 residents (55%) voted yes, 19 residents (32%) voted no, and 8 residents (13%) voted unsure. The question of the week poll is unscientific and doesn’t reflect the views of Osky News.

This week we are focusing on a long argued point: whether or not Christmas is too commercialized. It seems like every year by mid November we are beginning to hear ads for massive Christmas sales that will be beginning soon. As soon as the first ad begins running, you are subject to TV ads, newspaper ads, and web ads for the big box stores. The ads usually seem to have the same theme: you could save big bucks. These ads run nonstop, it seems, until just after Christmas, when they transition into new year ads.

For years now, many have argued that Christmas is becoming too commercialized. They say that nobody really seems to know the whole meaning of Christmas. They say that we need to stop running ads so early because they seem to ignore the Thanksgiving Holiday. Those who disagree say that it is important for the stores to have these ads up early. They say that it is important for the stores because they have lots of Christmas merchandise they need to sell.

Now its your turn to vote. Vote in our online poll. The poll will be open until 9 pm next Sunday when we will close the poll and release the final voting results. If you have any questions or comments, please e-mail them to us at info@oskynews.org
