Kenneth Charles Chilton, age 92, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Eddyville, Iowa, passed away Wednesday morning, April 19, 2017, at the Northern Mahaska Specialty Care Center in Oskaloosa. Kenneth was born on August 17, 1924, in Given, Iowa to Charles Daniel and Eva (Moline) Chilton.

Kenneth was raised in Mahaska County and attended Oskaloosa High School.

In 1941, after Pearl Harbor attack Kenneth enlisted into the United States Air Force. He served during WWII stateside as an airplane mechanic.

After his military service Kenneth drove truck and worked for Orval Seaman for a short time. For 37 years Kenneth worked at John Deere Company in Ottumwa, as a millwright. He retired in 1982.

Kenneth was a devoted 33rd degree Mason. He was a former Master of the Eddyville Lodge #74, past Worthy Patron of the Eddyville Order of the Eastern Star, and past Senior Grand Steward and past Senior Grand Warden.

Kenneth volunteered for the V.A. for many years by driving veterans in Mahaska County to their hospital appointments. He was also a volunteer fireman for many years for the Eddyville Fire Department.

Kenny is survived by his two sons, Charles “Bill” William Chilton of Belknap, Iowa, and Kenneth Glenn (& Brenda) Chilton of Lovilia, Iowa; one daughter, Marcy (& Dennis) Dewitt of New Sharon, Iowa; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and one sister, Evelyn Nancy Maxwell of Rock Island, IL.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie (Skinner) Chilton; parents, Charles and Eva (Moline) Chilton; a sister, Gladys Chilton; and a brother, Keith Chilton.

Visitation for Kenny will be held from 12:00 P.M., noon to 8:00 P.M., Sunday, April 23, 2017, at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel, with Masonic rites beginning at 5:30 P.M. Kenny’s family will be greeting friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Sunday evening.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Monday, April 24, 2017 at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel. The Eddyville Funeral Chapel is assisting Kenneth’s family with services.
Burial will follow services at Highland Cemetery in Eddyville.
A memorial has been established in Kenneth’s name to the Eddyville Masonic Lodge #74.
