Navy & Gold Gala to be held at The Barn

The Navy & Gold Gala

(Oskaloosa, Iowa) – The William Penn University Athletic Booster Club has announced that the annual Navy & Gold Gala, set for Saturday, April 8, 2017, will now be held at The Barn, located at 815 Woodland Road in Oskaloosa, Iowa. This event is sponsored by NoCoast Beer Co.

Join William Penn University at The Barn and engage in friendly competition while fellow table-mates are quizzed on categories ranging from entertainment, history, geography, sports, Oskaloosa, and William Penn University. Prizes will be awarded to the top-3 winning teams. After every second round of trivia, guests may bid on silent auction items and raffle prizes will be announced throughout the evening.

“The Round Guy” Steve Pilchen (’76) will serve as celebrity emcee for the evening. Born and raised in Central New York, Pilchen moved to Oskaloosa in 1972 to play baseball for William Penn. He graduated in 1976. After getting his MA in Student Development, Pilchen worked as a Pre-Sentence Investigator and as a Scout for the Yankees. Seven years later, Pilchen would quit his job and pursue stand-up comedy, which eventually sent him to Des Moines and transitioned him into a full-time gig in radio in 1993. Pilchen is currently the host of the The Round Guy Morning Show on KBOE Radio in Oskaloosa.

This fundraiser will feature an evening of trivia and all funds raised will go to support athletic scholarships for students. In 2015, Navy & Gold Gala proceeds helped fund transportation improvements. The 2014 event helped to fund the purchase of a passenger van, filling necessary transportation needs. In 2013, the event helped with stadium improvement projects at the Lacey Recreation Complex. The 2012 event helped with the purchase of William Penn University Track & Field equipment.

Now in its fifth year as an event, the evening includes an interactive trivia contest, appetizers, and a night of friendly competition for friends of William Penn University. Tickets are $30 per person or $240 for an eight-person table. To reserve your seat or to reserve a table, contact the William Penn University Office of Advancement at 641-673-1044. Seating is limited, so reserve your spot today.
