Dennis Paxton, 65, of Fremont, died Friday, March 24, 2017, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa. He was born Monday, May 28, 1951, in Sigourney, the son of Merle and Geneva Van Orsdall Paxton.

Dennis graduated from Fremont High School with the Class of 1970.

Following school, Dennis worked at Oskaloosa Engineering for several years and at Fremont Elementary School for many years.

He loved turtle trapping and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He also enjoyed attending his nieces and nephew’s activities and pestering his family.

Dennis is survived by his three brothers: Terry (& Nancy) Paxton of Oskaloosa, Rodney Paxton of Muscatine and Norman Paxton of Muscatine; a sister, Debra Paxton of Fremont; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a great great niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Geneva; a stepfather, Donald Kauffman; 5 brothers: Larry, David, Richard, Robert and Danny Paxton; and a sister, Shirley Paxton.

Graveside services and burial will be held Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at 12 noon at Van Orsdall Cemetery west of Ollie with Reverend Bill Hornback officiating.
A procession will form at Fremont Funeral Chapel at 11:10 A.M. for those wishing to go to the cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 29, 2017, from 10 – 11 A.M. at the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont with the family present during that time to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made in Dennis’ name.
