James attended school in Greenbush, MN. Jim was baptized in the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist, MN and was confirmed in the Evangelical Church in Strathcona, MN.

On February 10, 1981, Jim was united in marriage to his soul mate and best friend, Joan Sikorski, in Aberdeen, South Dakota. To this union six children were born, Jordan, Jesse, Jenny, Joseph, Jamie “Betsy” and Jasmine.

Jim’s passion was racing and training horses. He lived in several different states racing and training. In 1989, Jim and Joan moved to Barnes City, where he raced and trained horses at Prairie Meadows in Altoona when they first opened. Jim was a master of horse trading and enjoyed a good bargain. In the off season or his off time, Jim helped his father-in-law farm, worked as a carpenter and built several highways throughout South Dakota and Wyoming. In his later years, he helped his sons farm.

Jim was very humble and had a heart of gold and loved to give his nurses a hard time. He loved cooking for his family and friends. Jim didn’t have a lot but he gave everything he could to help out a friend. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Jim was very supportive of his children in all of their activities and loved to watch his boys wrestle when they were younger. He also really enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and taking them on ranger rides. Jim enjoyed camping, trail riding, fishing, playing pool and playing cards; especially the card game, Boo Ray. He was an avid Minnesota Viking fan and a passionate carpenter who taught his children to always have pride in your work.

His memory will be honored by his mother, Deloris Linder of Strathcona, MN; his children: Jesse (& Amber) Linder of Gibson, Jenny (& Travis) Bos of Montezuma, Joseph (& Amanda) Linder of What Cheer and Jamie “Betsy” (& Charles) Hiner of Barnes City; 14 grandchildren, with one on the way; two sisters, Debbie Linder of Twin Valley, MN and Janell Linder of Magnolia, TX; along with several other nieces, nephews and friends.
