Marburger and Dine earn all-conference honors in women’s basketball
PELLA— The Iowa Conference handed out its postseason awards Thursday as Central College women’s basketball player Claire Marburger (Perry) received first-team honors and teammate Emily Dine (Oldsmar, Fla., East Lake HS) received honorable mention.
During league play, Marburger averaged 18.3 points per game, the best in the conference. She finished fourth in the conference in rebounding, corralling 7.7 boards per game. Her 14 blocked shots in conference play were the seventh most by any player in the league. She paced the Dutch with seven double-doubles and seven games with 25 or more points.
The sophomore was named the conference female athlete of the week on Nov. 20 and Dec. 11 after averaging 25.5 points per game over that stretch. Marburger finished the season with the ninth most points scored in a single season with 463, leaving her 94 points shy of the 1000-point club.
Dine tallied 12.6 points per game during league play and averaged three 3-point makes per game. A terrific shooter, Dine broke the Central College career 3-pointers made record with 143 trifectas. Dine was in the top-20 for assists per game, dishing out 2.3 a game. Dine rarely wasn’t on the floor for the Dutch, leading the conference with 35.8 minutes played.
Central finished the regular season with a 9-16 overall record and a 2-14 mark in conference play.
