Central College

PELLA— The Iowa Conference handed out its postseason awards Thursday as Central College basketball player Colby Taylor (senior, Creston) received first-team honors, teammate Kyle Smith (Ionia, New Hampton HS) was named second-team and Pete Walker (senior, Red Oak) received honorable mention notice.

Taylor garnered first-team honors after averaging 19.1 points per game during league play, the second most of any player. His 7.5 rebounds per game were good for fifth in the league and was also top-5 in the league with 31.6 minutes played per game.

Receiving second team honors was Smith, who contributed average 15.5 points during the conference schedule. An excellent shooter, Smith was fourth shooting 40.8 percent from beyond the arc. Smith notched his career-high 31 points in a victory over Wartburg College January 14.

Walker was named to the honorable mention squad after scoring 13.0 points per game in the 11 league games he played. Battling through injuries most of the season, Walker finished the season strong averaging 13 points per game prior to the league tournament before exploding to 21.6 per game during the tourney.

Central’s season came to an end after an 89-85 loss to Wartburg in the league tourney championship.
