Future looks bright for Oskaloosa Middle School Wrestlers:
The Oskaloosa Middle School wrestlers finished out a successful 2016/2017 season on Tuesday, 1/31, in Washington. This season demonstrated incredible growth in our young wrestlers, many who had never seen a wrestling match before this season, in fact the coaches showed a video of a wrestling match on the second day of practice to show the team what wrestling looked like. The team started out slow, suffering significant losses in their first three meets. The struggle that these young wrestlers faced in early competition helped to lay the foundation for their future success. Through a renewed commitment and an increased intensity in the practice room the Oskaloosa wrestlers began to figure out how to win, and understood that every match would be a fight. In wrestling nothing is given, you must earn it, every time you step on the mat you must be ready for a fight. Coming off the holiday break set in motion an incredible turn around for the wrestlers as they began notching big wins against good quality competition. The best indication of these young men’s growth was in beating opponents that had beaten them earlier in the year, or by losing by smaller margins to the same opponents. Every wrestler showed this growth time and time again. The wrestling team finished with a roster of 27 wrestlers, which was bigger than any team that they faced all season. We have 10, 8th graders who will be moving on to the high school ranks, while returning 17, to the middle school team next year. The team finished the season 211-201, with 69% of our wrestlers having a winning record. The team would like to thank the parents, fans, and administration for their support of these young men and wrestling in Oskaloosa.
