Montezuma Defeats Oskaloosa 8th Grade Girls
Yesterday evening the 8th grade girls took on a Montezuma team that was a “well oiled machine.” The Montezuma team came out ready to play. They played unselfish basketball, hit the offensive glass, played great man to man full court defense, and took high percentage shots. A well coached squad that our girls learned a lot from playing against. Our girls came out and could not handle the full court pressure that the Montezuma squad put on. We had a tough time putting the ball in the basket and came up short by a score of 35-11. Our girls finish up the season against Pella this Thursday at 4:30. Come out and support our great group of girls!
Stats:
Kaylee Johnson: 4 points and 3 rebounds
Makenna Schaffner: 2 points and 1 rebound
Jillian Jennings: 1 point and 3 rebounds
Maddie Haines: 4 points and 2 rebounds
Abby Braundmeier: 4 rebounds
The B squad was met head on by a great Montezuma team as well and feel short by the score of 13-34. The second Montezuma group followed suit with having great defense and taking high percentage shots. Our girls were within striking distance in the first half but quarter number 3 put the game out of reach. This second group showed more individual aggression as the game progressed and once we got a shot up it was a high percentage one. These girls once again never gave up on their teammates and fought until the very end. Hope to see everyone Thursday afternoon at the middle school gymnasium! Go Indians!
