Central football player passes away
PELLA —Former Central College football student-athlete Derek Caskey, 20, passed away Tuesday.
Caskey, a 2015 graduate of Marengo High School (Ill.), was a freshman offensive lineman for the Dutch in 2015 and completed the 2015-16 academic year on campus. However, he was diagnosed with cancer last August and was not enrolled for the fall semester as he went through treatment.
“We lost a brother and a friend,” coach Jeff McMartin said. “He was a great teammate and he did things the right away. He lived out his life and attacked cancer with great courage. Our hearts are saddened for his family and for our entire community.”
Details about services are yet to be announced.
